Smart Combustion Technology

Perspective towards EURO-6

The continuously monitoring of the combustion process temperature enables control of the emission products in an optimal way without the loss of efficiency or power. This method is used to achieve Stage-V compliant emissions without aftertreatment. Perspective in ArenaRed’s research indicates that with more research and development this method can be extended to comply with EURO-6 emission legislation for trucks and buses, without an aftertreatment system.  

 


Advantages with ArenaRed’s Combustion Pressure Based Control (CPBC)

  • Going 10% further on the same amount of energy compared to diesel.
  • Safe 10% of the fuel cost in western Europe, this can be guaranteed by ArenaRed over the entire depreciation period of the installation, to be discussed with ArenaRed.
  • The possibility to run on 95% natural gas, biogas, hydrogen or a random blend, all from the same fuel tank!  We   enable and invite hydrogen as the new sustainable fuel for the transportation sector  
  • No exhaust gas aftertreatment
  • Lower production costs due to:
  1.  Less sensors required
  2. Cheaper actuators possible
  3. Lower production tolerances

 

Below stated values are all measured on the DOCAT 3500AR with original Caterpillar 3500 pistons. Only the original CAT diesel injector was replaced by the ArenaRed diesel injector and the gas injector and CPS are added.  

The following values can be demonstrated at our test facility daily.

Today’s Specs with the DOCAT 3500AR, there is plenty of room for improvement based on the customer’s demand or after the first ship is steaming with ArenaRed’s technology. 


ArenaRed Dual Fuel 99% Gas

For this 99% gas dual fuel application ArenaRed applied a different diesel injector than used for 95% gas.

  • Gas share 99% (natural gas, biogas, hydrogen or a random blend of those)

Both 95% and 99% gas deployment with ArenaRed’s dual fuel technology requires more research. ArenaRed focuses on realizing the first river ship with the DOCAT 3500AR able to run on 95% gas for all work points but also during transients. Beside this ArenaRed will apply “Skip Fire” in order to control the air-fuel equivalence ratio at low power and virtually downsize the engine up to a factor of eight times. ArenaRed will realize this first ship in the second half of 2018.
